The recently unveiled Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 2022 has just been introduced in the Indian market, with the flagship SUV from the house of India’s largest automaker making its global debut. The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is being developed under the partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation to produce cars that will be mutually sold by the two Japanese auto giants with different names and certain changes. Along the same line, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is based on the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder mid-size rugged hybrid SUV. The new Vitara is available in a 5-seat configuration and will be sold through the NEXA range of dealerships, presenting the vehicle as Maruti’s most premium offering to date.

Now, a digital artist by the name of SRK Designs has digitally imagined the newly unveiled 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara as a 7-seater SUV by increasing the rear overhang and giving it a more minivan look, similar to the lines of Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Alcazar. Given that Creta is a direct competitor to the Grand Vitara, it makes sense that Maruti Suzuki would bring a 7-seater version a bit later and therefore this rendering is not just a figment of the imagination, but the possible understanding of a future SUV.

As seen in the render, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater version gets increased body length to accommodate an extra row of seats inside the cabin and may very well be called the Grand Vitara XL. Currently, Maruti Suzuki retails the 6-seater XL6 from NEXA dealerships and does not have a 7-seater product in the portfolio except for the Ertiga, which is sold through ARENA dealerships, marketed as a more profitable offer. .

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara uses a unibody chassis and will be sold with mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrain options. In addition, the Grand Vitara gets the title of the most fuel-efficient SUV in the country with a speed of 28 kmpl. Since Maruti Suzuki confirmed that production of the SUV will begin in August, a holiday season launch is planned.

The Grand Vitara is Maruti Suzuki’s first strong hybrid car in the Indian market and gets a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder unit paired with an electric motor and an eCVT automatic gearbox. The mild hybrid engine is the K15C unit which produces 102hp and 135Nm, and is offered with 5-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed torque converter options.
